If we fail to get what
we want and if our expectations are disappointed, we sink into an abyss of dissatisfaction, forgetting
and losing even everything we had achieved up to that moment.

Better not want anything and be satisfied with what you have? Sometimes it is the best choice
to make when it is necessary to appreciate with gratitude all the gifts that the Universe gives us, it is
important to give and recognize the right value to observe the abundance in which we are constantly
immersed. But this does not mean giving up desiring, because Desire has always inspired us,
fascinates us, and gives us the strength to overcome the greatest challenges. It is difficult to find the
motivation to follow a path without the energy boost of our desires. We all desire something, and it
is this “something” that makes the difference.

How aware are you of what you really want and the impact your desires have on life? Why do you sometimes desire what you can’t have or completely lose interest the moment you get what you were desiring?

Finding an answer to these questions is very important for understanding the nature of our desires
and knowing how to choose how to reach them. Sometimes what we desire is not what we really
want.

When you want something or someone that is inaccessible, or if you have already lost interest in
something you have already achieved, the first thing you need to do is step back. Yes, take a step
back, relax, observe your thoughts from afar and with detachment and think about the real reason
that makes you want that something. The real reason is not “because it is beautiful”, “because it is
luxurious” or “because it is irresistible”. There is always more behind it and I hope to help you
look beyond. So, imagine now that you have finally fulfilled that desire, how do you feel? What
scenarios is the imagination of your unconscious suggesting? What need or lack lies behind your
desire or loss of interest in something you have achieved?

Behind every desire there is an important message from our unconscious, understanding it is
your task. Your desire to have what you cannot achieve, could be the result of a continuous
inner struggle that you experience due to low self-esteem, a lack of acceptance of yourself with the need to add material value to your person, or it could be the cause of a lack, of an
ancestral trauma, that is, the fact of never having felt appreciated and loved enough. When we understand the nature of our desires, we also learn to see what the unconscious is hiding from us, taking our happiness away from us. There are many desires that must be understood, few those that must be pursued.

The truth is that the only way you can add value to yourself and accept yourself is to invest time and energy in yourself, fill possible gaps by filling the real voids of your soul and charge yourself with love. Stop investing energy in what you don’t have or struggle too much to achieve. These energies you could best invest in accepting yourself and starting to improve your life in a
tangible way.

In Odaka Yoga this attitude is always relived and each time the lesson ends with a profound
enrichment for both the student and the teacher. Difficult to desire something when you feel good,
happy and in harmony. Yoga teaches us to change what cannot be accepted and to accept what
cannot be changed. The practice of asanas becomes a transformative journey of infinite
possibilities. The transition between one position and another becomes as important as the final
asana to be achieved. This offers us the possibility of remaining in deep connection with ourselves,
with our desires, increases our awareness of living centered in the here and now, empties us of
superfluous thoughts to give us new energy and strength in the continuous becoming.
When you learn to observe the infinite possibilities that surround you, you stop noticing those shortcomings that could lead you to desire something superfluous. During a typical flow of Odaka Yoga we move in perfect harmony, reducing efforts in favor of a great expression of energy.
Transitions show us our possibilities, our desires, and help us achieve the perfect asana for us, the noblest desire and closest to our essence, there are no standards or points of arrival, just a journey full of emotions along a life.

Vivian Mil.
– Odaka RYT 500 Yoga Teacher
Instagram: @ararisko_harmony_yoga_

Do you desire what you don’t have too? – How to manage what you desire.
